It is only a matter of weeks before Renault unveils its new SUV replacing the Kadjar. Spotted several times in 2021, the Losange firm today reveals a new image of its future SUV, in profile this time, after the photos of the prototype.
As you can see in this new photo as a teaser, it will not be a Coupe SUV strictly speaking, this role being taken on by the Arkana. On the other hand, the rear window will be more inclined than a Kadjar in order to give it a more dynamic appearance.
The Renault Austral has just entered its most important testing phase. After having traveled several thousand kilometers across Europe, the prototype will now undergo so-called “confirmation” tests. Around a hundred prototypes will travel a total of two million kilometers. The tests will focus on the improvements made to the new CMF-CD3 platform, the driving assistance devices and the suspension.
In addition to a completely new surname, the Austral will also cut ties with the Kadjar in terms of engines. Renault will be able to count on a range of electrified petrol powertrains, at the same time abandoning all diesel engines.
The Losange firm has already announced a new E-Tech Hybrid engine of 200 horsepower and new 1.2-liter and 1.3-liter turbo micro-hybrid units accompanied by an alternator-starter of, respectively, 48V. and 12V.
There will be some synergies between the Nissan Qashqai and the Renault Austral, in particular concerning on-board technologies. On the other hand, in terms of engines, despite some similarities, the catalog should be different at certain levels. The interior should resemble that of the new 100% electric Renault Mégane E-Tech.
