RAccording to media reports, alf Rangnick will be the new coach at the English football champions Manchester United. According to information from The Athletic, the 63-year-old, who trained in the Bundesliga, among others, RB Leipzig, TSG Hoffenheim and FC Schalke, will take over the post on an interim basis until the end of the season. Man United would have agreed on this with the coach. A Rangnicks advisor told the German Press Agency on Thursday: “There’s something to the story.”
The prerequisite for this, however, is that Rangnicks current club Lokomotiv Moscow, for which he works as sports director, releases from his contract, which runs until 2022. According to The Athletic and Kicker, Rangnick will then sign a six-month contract with the Red Devils until the end of May and then stand by the club as an advisor for two more years, as long as his contract in Moscow would have been valid.
The “Daily Mail” reported on Wednesday that Ralf Rangnick was one of five possible candidates to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer alongside former Dortmund coach Lucien Favre. Man United separated from the Norwegian on Sunday after a 4-1 disgrace at the relegation candidate FC Watford. The club apparently hopes to be able to sign Mauricio Pochettino, the current coach of Paris Saint-Germain, from the summer. An engagement of the former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is also reportedly being discussed.
It is already clear, however, that Rangnick, the long-time sports director and coach of the German Bundesliga team RB Leipzig, would definitely not be available for United’s upcoming away game at Chelsea on Sunday (5.30 p.m. / Sky) due to the lack of a work permit.
