RAE suggests not using Anglicism "Crush"

The official Twitter account of the Royal Spanish Academy pointed out on the platform that it is wrong to use foreigners “crush” to refer to a platonic or impossible love, and recommends instead using an equivalent in our language.

The institution proposes instead to use an equivalence according to the meaning that is given to the term, for example crush, passion, platonic love or who I like.

Because there is no exact translation of the term “crush”, the RAE gives several options for different situations, which caused disgust and ridicule from Twitter users who propose to continue using Anglicism.
