The Antofagasta region registered a record of infections in the last 24 hours, reaching 610 new cases. This figure is the highest since the start of the pandemic. What is worrying are the medical facilities in the region, in Calama the ICU occupancy reached 100% and in Antofagasta separate attention for the respiratory tract began.

The figures regarding covid-19 in Antofagasta continue to increase, and today the region reached the peak of cases with 610 new infections, during the last 24 hours.

That figure exceeds those of 2020, where positivity even reached 14%.

This Friday the Antofagasta region has the highest number of the entire pandemic. That is why the main medical facilities have decided to take more restrictive measures.

In the case of the regional capital, the Antofagasta hospital initiated an emergency separation. This only with an access for patients with an airway and differentiated access for other pathologies to minimize risks.

This was indicated at least by Dr. Pedro Usedo, head of the Infectious Diseases Unit of the Regional Hospital of Antofagasta.

“An access only for patients with respiratory disease and a different access for patients who consult with another pathology,” said Usedo.

Meanwhile, at the Carlos Cisternas Hospital in Calama, the bronchopulmonary doctor, Francisco Muñoz, confirmed that in Calama there is 100% occupancy of critical beds.

Therefore, the transfer to other areas of the country has already been activated, and also to the Antofagasta hospital.
