An oppressive heat, was the framework of the first day of competition in the 2022 edition of the Coahuila 1000-Desert Rally, which brings together more than 400 vehicles that venture on a journey through the entity’s desert.
The starting signals were given early in the morning at the three points established by the organizing committee: Saltillo, Piedras Negras and Torreón, where the start of the competition was experienced with great enthusiasm. It was the Governor of Coahuila, the lagoon man Miguel Riquelme, who was in charge of giving the flag in Saltillo, although he is a constant participant in the rally, on this occasion he limited himself to giving the start, to attend to the contingency of trapped miners and to be at the pending any eventuality.
In Piedras Negras, where the competition contingent in terms of cars that compete in the timed rally started, the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Coahuila, Azucena Ramos, was the one who waved the checkered flag, while in Torreón, it was the head of Communication and Image of the State of Coahuila, Fernando Simón Gutiérrez, who had the honor of giving the flag. This first day was just “a little taste” for the pilots who were able to fully experience the Coahuila desert that today awaits them in a new challenge.
HEADING TO THE GOAL
As for the timed rally competition, there was a rough first day in various categories, the pilots put their skills to the test and their determination to reach the check point in the shortest time possible. The pilots who have experience of the “Baja 1000” took surprises on the Coahuilense route and although they continue to look like the favorites to take the first places, today a very close closing is predicted in the META established in the Convention Center of this city.
For today, from 11:00 a.m., an exhibition of 4 by 4 vehicles will be open to the Laguna public in the parking lot of the Convention Center, where admission is free with the invitation to fans to wait for the arrival of the pilots. After the arrival of cars and motorcycles, there will be a pleasant coexistence with musical groups performing live, to culminate the evening with the raffle of a UTV, in which all the pilots participating in the rally and the tourist tour will participate.
NAME, FOR THE GLORY
The first day of competition was a good challenge for Francisco “Pancho” Name, who, however, came out ahead of the challenge by placing himself on the warpath for the scepter of his category, 29, for Can – Am Turbo vehicles. Together with his co-driver Armando Zapata, the experienced “Pancho” Name was placed in the Top 5 of his category after the first day of competition, so today he will seek to put all his experience behind the wheel to achieve his first championship in the Coahuila 1000.
