The 10 best cities to live in, according to The Economist

Vienna has once again ranked number one as the best city in the world to live in, according to the report produced every year by the Intelligence Unit of the British magazine The Economist.

The Austrian capital stole the title from Auckland in New Zealand, which fell to number 34, due to the strict prevention measures it imposed due to the pandemic, the report says.

Vienna had lost its place of privilege last year due to the closure of its museums and restaurants due to covid, but the reopening of cultural and social life returned it to the position it had already achieved in 2018 and 2019.

In second place was Copenhagen (Denmark), in third place Zurich (Switzerland), in fourth and fifth place two Canadian cities: Calgary and Vancouver, respectively.

According to the authors of the report, “stability and good infrastructure are the main charms of the city for its inhabitants, backed by good medical care and many opportunities for culture and entertainment.”

Other curious facts

If you want to know which are the least desirable cities to live in, the report also lists the 10 worst.

From bottom (worst) to top they are: Damascus (Syria), Lagos (Nigeria), Tripoli (Libya), Algiers (Algeria), Karachi (Pakistan), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Harare ( Zimbabwe), Douala (Cameroon) and Tehran (Iran).

As for London, it ranks 33rd, Paris 19th, New York 51st, and Barcelona and Madrid 35th and 43rd, respectively.
