The reborn Renault 4 has just been unveiled as a concept car under the name 4Ever Trophy in tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 4L Trophy humanitarian rally, which explains the striking body kit. Its production ceased 30 years ago, but the « 4L » is still in the foreground. With more than 8 million units sold in more than 100 countries, the Renault 4 has been an intergenerational car that has marked all social classes for 60 years. It is a retro-style crossover that seeks to become the best-selling electric car of the French firm when it is launched in 2025.
The main character traits of the original car have been used and that is that to begin with, the general silhouette is recognizable at first glance, with a bonnet with character and its famous tailgate that lowers with a great angle towards the bumper.
The Renault 4Ever Trophy, at 4,160 millimeters long, is somewhat shorter than the Captur (4,223 mm). Other specifications that could translate to the production version include a 42 kWh battery and a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor. And like the Renault 5, the 4 will be built on the CMF-BEV platform, which uses around 50% of the components of the existing CMF-B skeleton for smaller models with combustion engines. Compared to the Zoe, the cost of the platform has been reduced by 30%.
The side glazed line is trapezoid-shaped with rounded corners. It is located just above the rear wheel. At the front, the sides are bare, without any aesthetic element, and the fenders completely cover the wheel arches and end at the bumper.
According to the brand itself, this concept vehicle is an electric adventure off the beaten track. References to the original 4L include the black-painted rectangular grille graphic at the front that houses the headlights, the shape of the front wings, the trapezoidal side windows, the tapered rear end, and the pill-shaped taillights that they combine some modern cues like the pixelated LED graphics, flush door handles, cameras that replace the rearview mirrors, the two-tone roof and slim pillars, or the large air vent on the hood that helps improve the efficiency.
The lower part of 4EVER Trophy, painted in steel color, is designed for outdoor life. With its buggy look, 4EVER Trophy is also inspired by competition. The hood is very hollow and has a large air outlet to optimize the operation of the radiator located in the center of the bumper. The front overhang is very small to optimize its off-road capabilities.
Each wheel of the 4EVER Trophy is equipped with a visible compressor that allows tire pressure to be adjusted instantly from the cockpit to suit each terrain.
The concept is painted Gun Metal Silver with a healthy dose of plastic cladding around the body and magenta accents. It sits on 19-inch wheels with a futuristic design and integrated compressors, changing the air pressure of the off-road tires on request. The beefed-up suspension results in a ground clearance of 200mm which, combined with the extra off-road equipment, creates a rugged appearance that is sure to turn heads at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.
The model will be built in Maubeuge, in northern France, as part of Renault’s “ElectriCity” grouping of factories for electric vehicles and their components.
