The mayor of Torreón, Román Alberto Cepeda González, said that he does not share the perception that the crime of drug dealing has increased, as he assured that “It is one thing to attend to it and another thing to increase it”.
This is in relation to the crime incidence monitoring figures provided by the Civic Council of Institutions (CCI) Laguna, based on the complaints compiled by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System of the state Prosecutors’ Offices.
The municipal president said that the fact that these crimes are prosecuted in Torreón does not mean that they are increasing.
“The fact that we know them and that we attend to them, and that through coordinated intelligence we avoid and prevent, is very different from increasing, I think it is a matter of perception,” he commented.
Said He will meet shortly with the CCI, something he has done on previous occasions for other topics, since he said that sometimes the questions are confusing but the information is also. He stressed that it is very important for the Municipality to have these data provided by monitoring, but he insisted that the issue should not be confused.
“They are not increasing (crimes), one thing is that we attend to them, that we catch them through intelligence, another thing is that they are increasing,” he said.
I believe that it is not a problem of disinformation but a question of methodology, since he indicated that joint work is carried out between the municipal authorities and the State, in terms of strategy and intelligence, where drug dealing is fought fiercely and resolutely, but is also documented.
“There are those who, for others (municipalities), it is easier to do nothing, and it is not documented, so we must not confuse what is attended and what is hadIn other places there are much more but they don’t catch them, so it’s very different, I think that must also be said,” said the mayor.
Cepeda González said that they have sought to prevent this crime so that it does not become a problem for society, since he indicated that this type of action will always be taken.
“It is one thing to document them, prosecute them and attend to them on time, catch them on time, (others) have a lot to do,” he said.
