The Prime Minister wants to “find the way with this new Assembly”. Elisabeth Borne, declared that she was to meet Thursday and Friday with the presidents of the parliamentary groups which have just been elected. The head of government is also the guest of LCI at 8:50 p.m.
After the reception at the Elysée Palace of all the party leaders, Elisabeth Borne indicated that she was going to exchange by telephone with the presidents of the groups: Aurore Bergé for LREM, Jean-Paul Mattéi for the MoDem, Laurent Marcangeli for Horizons , Marine Le Pen for the RN, Oliver Marleix for LR, Mathilde Panot for LFI, Boris Vallaud for the PS, Julien Bayou and Cyrielle Chatelain for EELV.
Elisabeth Borne “confident”
“We are trying to find the way with this new National Assembly”, explained the head of government on the sidelines of a trip to Île-de-France, saying to wait “an explanation of what [les forces politiques d’opposition] are ready to do by tomorrow, as the President of the Republic mentioned”, in his televised speech on Wednesday evening.
“The subject is on the table: now we are awaiting the responses of the various political parties. Perhaps a work program for a few months or, case by case, on the texts”, she added, saying she was “confident” about the fact that “the political forces, the deputies, even if they are not part of the presidential majority, want our country to be able to continue to move forward”.
The oppositions returned the ball to Emmanuel Macron’s court on Thursday, refusing the idea of a coalition government and urging him to propose concrete measures for the French, while wishing to restore to Parliament its full role in the examination of texts “on a case-by-case basis”.
