‘El Chueco’ spoke with another priest after killing Jesuits in Chihuahua

The criminal leader José Noel Portillo, alias “El Chueco”, spent nearly an hour talking with the priest Jesús Reyes, after having murdered the Jesuits Javier Campos Morales and Joaquín César Mora Salazar, and a tour guide in a church in Cerocahui, in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua.

On Monday afternoon, authorities received a report indicating that three people were murdered in the town of Cerocahui, municipality of Uriquein the mountains of Chihuahua.


José Noel Portillo alias “El Chueco” is approximately 30 years old.

The subject has been wanted since 2018 by authorities in Chihuahua, for his alleged responsibility in the murder of the American tourist Patrick Braxton-Andrews.

He has also been charged with the murder of other activists in the Sierra de Chihuahua.

According to official data, “El Chueco” leads the criminal group called “New People”adhered to the Sinaloa Cartel.

It is said that it operates in areas of the mountains such as Mesa de Arturo, Bahuichivo, Cerocahui and San Rafael, among others.. He has also formed alliances with other crime bosses in Urique, Guazapares and Chínipas.

He has an arrest warrant for various crimes, however despite operations so far he has not been arrested.

Unofficially, residents say that he was the one who took them, after he questioned one of the priests for giving the holy oils to the injured civilianbut it has not been officially confirmed.
