Balenciaga withdraws its controversial campaign with children and sadomasochistic elements

Balenciaga is in the eye of the hurricane for his latest advertising campaign. The images, which the luxurious firm had published both on its website and on social networks, were carried out by children who appeared posing in different settings decorated with chains, harnesses and sadomasochistic aesthetics.

The outrage generated on social media by this campaign has led the firm to withdraw it and publicly apologize. In addition, they emptied their Instagram profile of images and content.

In the controversial photographs, taken by Gabriele Galimberti, minors appeared holding stuffed animals dressed in sadomasochism costumes. In addition, in other images in which there were no children involved, documents on child pornography could be seen.

This is the case of the image of a bag, which was placed on top of a sentence in a child pornography case.

Balenciaga became trending topic this week for this reason. After the scandal, the firm decided to apologize through a statement that they posted on Instagram stories.

”We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our stuffed bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We have immediately withdrawn the campaign from all platforms,” they said from the brand.

”We apologize for showing disturbing documents in our campaign. We take this matter very seriously and will be taking legal action against the parties responsible for the creation of the set and the inclusion of unapproved items for our Spring 23 campaign photo shoot. We strongly condemn the abuse of children in any of its forms. We stand up for the safety and well-being of children,” they added.

There have been several controversies that have plagued the brand in recent times. A recent one was selling worn and broken sneakers for thousands of dollars.
