The Disney+ streaming service revives the “Santa-Clause“-Franchise again. For this, as in the family film of the time, “The Santa ClauseTim Allen has hired Santa Clause to slip into Santa Clause’s costume once again, playing the role of Scott Calvin.
The plot of the series, which has the working title “The Santa Clause‘ is produced, according to Disney officials, reads as follows: ‘Scott Calvin’s 65th birthday is fast approaching and he realizes he can’t stay Santa forever. Slowly but surely, a few flaws start to creep into his activities as Santa, and more importantly, he has a family that could benefit from life in the normal world, given that both children grew up in the North Pole. To keep the elves, children and family happy, he sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa and prepare his family for life south of the Pole.“
The original film grossed almost $200 million at the box office at the time and was released in 2002 by the sequel “The Santa Clause 2‘ followed, which also made the appearance of Calvin’s wife-to-be (played by Elizabeth Mitchell) before the trilogy began in 2006 with ‘The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause‘ came to an end. It’s not Allen’s first collaboration with Disney, as his voice of Buzz Lightyear in the “Toy-Story” films.
Production is slated to begin in Los Angeles this spring. Jack Burditt, a long-time collaborator with Allen as the series creator of the recently ended comedy series Last Man Standing, has been brought in as showrunner. He also serves as executive producer alongside Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
„Santa Clause – A nice present“ is available as a stream in the Disney+ portfolio, among other things.
