MSV Neuzugang Knoll: "It’s important that we’re happy"

The worst away team in the 3rd division started the new year with a win at TSV Havelse. MSV Duisburg collected three important points and wants to take the joy of the 1-0 win with them.

“Duty to bring” is a word that Moritz Stoppelkamp used several times after beating bottom-placed Havelse. He and his colleagues are in that same area after a “very weak first half of the season”. “We wanted to start a series today and we succeeded,” he said in an interview with “Magenta Sport” after the final whistle.

“All that glitters wasn’t gold,” said the MSV captain, whose goal was enough for three points for the zebras, who were threatened with relegation. “If we want to keep the class, we also have to score points away from home. And if not today, against a direct competitor, then when?”

An excited Knoll is happy

For MSV it was only the second away win of the current season. Marvin Knoll, the new winter signing, was there right from the start. The defender, who came from the second division leaders FC St. Pauli, said after his debut: “We were very compact at the back, hardly allowed anything and had Stoppelkamp with the header monster.”

He was “motivated, but also a bit excited” – despite his 31 years, as he emphasized. “You can simulate anything, but not a game.” The fact that his premiere was a success gave him a positive feeling – a feeling he would like to keep: “We are happy today and it is also very important that we are happy, that we internalize this feeling that it is possible every week.”

After the game, Knoll was also looking forward to the ice bucket, as he said. “If he still has a bit of space, I’ll join him,” said Stoppelkamp.
