Brazilian Michel Macedo did not complete the first descent of the regional alpine ski giant slalom event held this Monday (10) in Whiteface Mountain, New York state, United States. Thus, he also did not go to the second descent and ended the participation without registering a mark. The winner was Marius Solbakken with a time of 1min57s82 on both descents. The Norwegian scored 57s06 in the first, the second best, and 1min00s76 in the following, the sixth best performance. Australian Thomas Hoffman was second with 1min58s03, followed by Bradshaw Underhill, from the United States, with 1min58s18. In total, 55 skiers completed both rounds and another 15 only the first.

It was the third day of competition at Whiteface Mountain. In the first two, Michel Macedo was in 17th place in both and, with that, won important points in the search for a spot in alpine skiing at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. The Brazilian had already secured the Olympic index and is the leader of the Brazilian ranking of the modality. Because of this, he is quoted to take the country’s spot in the Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital, scheduled to be held between the 4th and 20th of February. Born in Fortaleza, Ceará, he is only 23 years old and if he gets the spot he will compete in the Games for the second time. In the first, in Pyongchang-2018, in South Korea, he did not complete the alpine ski giant slalom.
