Opposition deputies presented this Wednesday the Constitutional indictment against the President Sebastián Piñera. In the libel, he is accused of violating the principles of probity and damaging the honor of the Nation.

Deputies from the different opposition benches signed the accusatory libel against the President of the Republic this Wednesday in the Chamber.

The above, after the journalistic investigation Pandora Papers, that revealed the sale of Dominga Mine where Sebastián Piñera was involved. The business was carried out in the tax haven of the Virgin Islands and had a clause that conditioned the last of the payments to the declaration of a protected area where the project was to be installed.

After knowing what happened, opposition deputies, from the Christian Democracy to the Broad Front, presented a Constitutional Indictment against the president on Wednesday.

Who led the process was the socialist deputy Jaime Naranjo, who pushed for all parties to sign the document.

The 99-page libel – to which Radio Bío Bío had access – points to two facts: violate the principles of probity and damage the honor of the Nation.

In this sense, Piñera is accused of “having openly violated the Constitution or the laws.”

“With regard to this accusatory libel, it is argued that the repeated and negligent conduct of the President of the Republic not only goes against the constitutionally and legally defined principle of probity, but that, additionally, its violation entails the violation of Article 19 number 8 of the Constitution, which in its broad sense is an unrestricted mandate to respect the environment ”, he adds.

“The President of the Republic cannot condition on a contractual clause signed in tax havens, which only reports utility for his family, the fatal fate of Chile’s environment,” he adds.
