The mansion belongs to the Ouro Preto City Hall and has been banned since 2012, as it is in a high-risk hillside area. The historic building was on Morro da Forca, located in the historic center of the city.

Complaints from residents already indicated the displacement of land around the site. A Civil Defense team was monitoring the area at the time of the accident.
