President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) padece COVID-19 for the second time and maintains isolation, so it does not lead its traditional “morning” press conferences, but instead the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López reports on the issues of the nation, including the President’s own state of health. How do you report this Thursday?
AMLO is progressing “very well” in his recovery after testing positive for COVID-19 and has been monitoring the country, reported this Thursday Adán Augusto López.
“The President is very well, maintaining the sanitary protocol as it is established and pending of everything”, asserted the Segob head during the morning press conference at the National Palace.
López pointed out that AMLO, who has been in confinement since he learned his diagnosis last Monday, has had virtual meetings with the cabinet.
“Yesterday we even had two or three meetings with virtual presence. In one of them we made them aware of the result of this work,” said the Minister of the Interior, referring to the austerity plan they presented this Thursday to the National Electoral Institute (INE) .
He assured that López Obrador is “very aware of the state of the federal public administration” and he estimated that in the next few days he may be “fully restored and can physically accompany us, for example, in these meetings (morning conferences)”.
However, he avoided giving a forecast of an exact day in which the president will be able to return to his daily activities, although, he said, “he is evolving satisfactorily.”
“And we hope that in the next few days he can end the sanitary restriction regarding his person”, he pointed.
López Obrador appeared on Monday at his conference with symptoms of a cold, although he assured that it was only the flu. Hours later, a test was done and it tested positive for covid for the second time in a year.
This was a week after having been in contact with the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, who tested positive a few days before AMLO.
Mexico notified this Wednesday 44 thousand 187 new infections of COVID-19, the highest number during the pandemic, for a total of 4 million 214 thousand 253 cases.
