The US broadcaster Epix has commissioned a third season of its historical gangster series Godfather of Harlem. According to Deadline new episodes will begin filming in New York this summer.
In season two, Bumpy (Forest Whitaker) continued to fight doggedly to regain power, trying to drive a wedge between his opponents. He was also aiming for their lucrative heroin business. Meanwhile, his friend Malcolm (Nigel Thatch) had to decide whether to act peacefully or violently. This doubt weighs heavily on his relationship with Bumpy …
In the third season, the game for the throne of Harlem continues when Bumpy has to defend his supremacy against the Cuban mafia from the Spanish part of Harlem. In the meantime, the Italian mafia, killers of the Latin American gang and also the CIA have their sights on him, which puts him and his loved ones in great danger. At the same time, it is about the progress of the American civil rights movement, which at that time achieved success with activism.
Vincent D’Onofrio, Ilfenesh Hadera, Nigel Thatch, Lucy Fry and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy are also returning for the next season.
Epix President Michael Wrigt: “‘Godfather of Harlem’ is a rare show that is addictively entertaining and deeply relevant at the same time. Forest Whitaker, Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein have created a series that deserves all the recognition it gets and it just gets more exciting with each season.“
Series star Whittaker adds: “I look forward to getting back to my show and working with the truly wonderful cast, crew and writers as we tell this unique, powerful story. Cant wait to get back on set and thank Michael Wright, Epix, ABC Signature and our dedicated fans for their support.“
