Get paid to study? Quebec did it!

The province of Quebec (Canada) brought out the heavy artillery in order to fight against the shortage of manpower. It has in fact decided to pay students who will choose very specific fields in the health, social services, education, educational childcare services, engineering and information technologies sector. and construction.

According to the Les Affaires website, from the start of the 2022 school year, university students who opt for these studies will receive $ 2,500 per session, which represents $ 15,000 (10,500 euros) for a three-year program and $ 20,000 (14,000 euros) for a program of 4 years.

If these amounts can make you dream, we must not forget that the cost of studies is much higher in Canada than in Belgium.

At the college level, for a level of studies between high school and university that can lead directly to a trade, students will receive $ 1,500 per session, or $ 9,000 for a three-year program.

The Quebec Ministry of Finance predicts that the measure will cost $ 1.7 billion (€ 1.2 billion). The province thus hopes to absorb the cruel lack of manpower which partially paralyzes its economy.

Note that Quebec is not the only region that pays its students. In France, some grandes écoles offer a salary to students who undertake to stay between 5 and 10 years in the public service.
