Essonne. Two fires lead to the evacuation of buildings in Massy and Évry

One fire declared in a building from Square de la Poterne at Massy (Essonne) in the afternoon of this Thursday, January 13, 2022. 36 firefighters intervened for clear out the 200 inhabitants, turn off the fire and now proceed with the clearing and stripping of the apartments.

Five people slightly injured

According to the departmental fire and rescue service of Essonne, the fire broke out in two apartments on the 8th and 9th floors of this building which has 16.

To extinguish the fire in the damaged apartments, the firefighters deployed two fire hoses, one of which was mounted on a ladder. In total, the intervention mobilized 18 machines. The balance sheet shows five victims, slightly injured.

A building evacuated the day before in Évry-Courcouronnes

The day before, Wednesday January 12 at 8 p.m., the firefighters were involved in another fire in an apartment in a five-story building in Square Charles Amouroux in Évry-Courcouronnes.

The fire broke out in an F3 type accommodation of approximately 75 m² located on the 2nd floor, according to the Essonne departmental fire and rescue service.

Arrived quickly on the spot, agents of Police Rescue and the Company of security and proximity of Évry went upstairs despite the heavy smoke to evacuate the residents.

Eight residents and three police officers inconvenienced by the smoke

Then, the firefighters took over, extinguishing the fire using a water hose and taking charge of eight victims of the disaster, all inconvenienced by the smoke. After examination, they were all evacuated to the emergency room.

In addition, three police officers were also inconvenienced by the smoke after their intervention in the floors to knock on doors and evacuate the building.

Three families relocated

Subsequently, “missions of reconnaissance, stripping, clearing, ventilation as well as a campaign of explosimetric measurements and search for hot spots were null”, indicates the departmental fire and rescue service. In total, this intervention will have mobilized 24 firefighters and 8 vehicles.

It should be noted that the incident caused the rupture of a hot water and heating pipe for all of the 26 dwellings. Finally, three families who lived in the apartments most affected by the disaster were relocated by the town hall.
