Will Smith’s Daughter Willow Talks About Her Dad Slapping Chris Rock At Oscars

She didn’t directly name her father or Chris Rock, but addressed the ongoing drama that followed her family.

The Smiths are doing their best to get used to the industry attention and appear to be facing the elephant in the room. After months of silence, Will Smith recently came up with a short video where he addressed some questions about the controversy. The beloved actor slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars earlier this year, and after apologizing and being disciplined by the Academy, Smith stayed out of the spotlight.

After his reiterated apology in his most recent video, his daughter Willow Smith apparently touched on the scandal during his interview with Billboard. During an interview where she talks about the release of her new album called COPINGMECHANISM, the singer addressed her feelings about the reaction her family received from the public after the Oscar incident and she said that it didn’t shake her as much as her inner demons.

“I see my entire family as human, and I love and accept them for all of their humanity,” the singer said. “Because of the position we are in, our humanity is sometimes not accepted, and we are expected to act in a way that is not conducive to a healthy human life and not conducive to honesty.”

Talking about her new album, she said: “I wanted to go rock. I didn’t want to go into pop punk. I didn’t want to go into what’s necessarily popular right now,” Smith revealed. “I wanted to go to the heart of rock, which for me is a deep cry – maybe about pain, maybe about joy.”
