The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes: Hunter Schafer im Panem Prequel

Hunter Schafer in Euphoria (c) HBO

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer joins the cast of the Panem prequel The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes, which tells of the youth of the later villain President Snow. Her role is known from earlier Hunger Games.

After Tom Blyth (Billy the Kid) and Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story“) with Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is now the next leading actress for the “The Hunger Games” prequel “The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes” Celebration. The 23-year-old US actress is set to star in the film as Tigris Snow, the cousin of Panem President Coriolanus Snow, who is portrayed as a young man by Blyth, following in Donald Sutherland’s footsteps. Zegler, meanwhile, plays Lucy Gray Baird, for whom Coriolanus becomes a mentor in the Hunger Games.

Tigris appeared in the original film series, played by Eugenie Bondurant at the time, but under her tiger make-up you could hardly recognize her. She was once the stylist at the Capitol and a close confidant of the later villain Coriolanus. She was even his moral compass, which he then lost until he finally became a brutal dictator.

The Hunger Games (Stream on Amazon Prime Video)

The story of the new film, which is again based on a book by Suzanne Collins but was released in 2020, takes place during the 10th annual Hunger Games. The protagonist Lucy is the tribute from the impoverished 12th district. Coriolanus is provided as her trainer to prepare for the struggle for survival. At some point political intrigues get in the way – who is ultimately the bird and who is the snake?

Josh Andres Rivera (also “West Side Story‘) was hired as Coriolanus’ friend Sejanus Plinth, by the way. Jerome Lance, Ashley Liao, Knox Gibson, Mackenzie Lansing and Aamer Husain play various tributes from the other districts. Meanwhile, Francis Lawrence, who directed the first four films from 2012 to 2015, wants to return to direct. Also Michael Arndt (“Catching Fire“) writes the screenplay again. Theatrical release is November 17, 2023.
