Rodrigo, known as GTA, is one of the exponents of the Rio de Janeiro cultural scene. The rapper is a resident of Morro da Providência, Rio de Janeiro.
Rodrigo GTA is a young black man and creator of the Roda Cultural da Central. The cultural space was launched on March 21, 2018 and soon gained prominence among hip hop culture agitators. The roda’s initiative was daring and not only took the rhyme to Praça dos Cajueiros, in Central do Brasil, but also revitalized the place that until then had been abandoned by the government, being a point of drug use.
However, in August 2018, Roda Cultural da Central went through one of the most difficult moments in its five months of existence. On August 1st of last year, the founder of the movement, Rodrigo GTA, recorded a video for social networks denouncing police persecution. On August 30, 2018, the rapper was arrested.
A campaign called “GTA freedom” has been launched since his arrest. The mobilization, in addition to denouncing the case of Rodrigo it also raised resources for the cultural producer’s family and their defense.
