Earlier in the day, we presented to you the list of the favorite books of the French, in which we can find several manga, proof that the genre is becoming more and more democratized within our popular culture. And among the mangakas present in the list, there are in particular Hajime Isayamathe creator of The attack of the Titans (Shingeki no Kyojin in OV). And precisely, the latter has recently excuse with his fansand this concerning a part of his work considered as controversial by many.
the mangaka’s apologies
Born in 1986 in Ōyama, Japan, Hajime Isayama will start the manga series The attack of the Titans in 2009although he has already made a one-shot of history a few years earlier, having thus enabled him to launch his career as a mangaka. Very quickly, the manga will be a great success, but it is from 2013 that the work will be entitled to a resurgence of popularity, notably thanks to the anime adaptation originally produced by Wit Studiobefore finally being taken over by MAPPA from the fourth season.
Over the years, The attack of the Titans managed to rise to the top of the most popular manga, and this all over the world, so much so that it is now considered a modern classic of the genre. And since the manga ended in April of last year, Isayama begins to travel around the globe to meet his fans. In particular, it will be possible to meet him at our place, the mangaka being the guest of the next edition of the Angoulême International Comics Festivalin order to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the publication of the series in France.
But before that, Isayama passed through the country of Uncle Sam, since he was present during Anime NYC, a major convention dedicated to Japanese manga and anime held last weekend. And it was during a question and answer session with the fans that the mangaka wanted to apologize for the conclusion of his work, which had fans sharply divided upon its release. When asked the following question: “Did you know from the start how you wanted The attack of the Titans ends?” he said:
While I was creating Attack on Titan, I was under his influence. I tried to make Eren good in the end. I doubt I have succeeded, and I still struggle on this point. I’m really sorry for that.

Isayama will then seem surprised and moved by the more than benevolent reaction of the public, but he will be especially very grateful for the welcome he received from the fans of his work, thanking all those present during the event.
I want to express my gratitude to all the fans. I wasn’t sure how to feel about the end of the story. I had a hard time and I’m sorry. I felt bad for a long time, until I met the fans […].
Fans told me the ending was awesome and they loved it, it made me so happy, coming to New York was an amazing experience. Thanks.
A conclusion that we will also soon be able to discover in anime, with the last part of the final season, which is scheduled for release next year.
