HBO has shared the trailer for Issa Rae’s new music-industry-based series “Rap Sh!t.”
The trailer for the next series of HBO in Issa Rae, “Rap Sh!t”, is here. The show revolves around two estranged high school friends trying to break into the music industry. They will be interpreted by Aida Osman and KaMillion. Rae wrote the premiere episode and also co-wrote the finale. The short story was developed from its original screenplay, “Insecure”.
Speaking about the show with Harper’s Bazaar, Rae recently said that it’s a unique time to be a female rapper and wanted to center a story around that experience. “I think this is such a unique time in hip-hop, especially when it comes to female rappers, because there’s an abundance and it doesn’t feel like everyone is competing with each other,” explained Issa.
“I’m a ’90s kid, and there’s always been a tendency to pit two women against each other. It seems that we are in an era where there is such a favorable environment now because of this abundance. All of that, combined only with my own ascension story, became the next story I wanted to tell.”
The final episode of Insecure aired in December. In the years since he debuted, Rae has expanded his career by working on numerous films including “Little”, “The Photograph”, “The Lovebirds” and more. “Rap Sh!t” is scheduled to arrive on HBO Max on July 21, 2022.
In addition to this, the HBO Max announced that it is also producing a new documentary on the rapper’s life. Lizzo. The official logline confirms that the film will chronicle “the journey of a pioneering superstar who became the movement the world desperately needed just by being herself.” Additionally, “the HBO Max documentary shares the inspiring story behind the humble beginnings of Lizzo until she became a superstar with an intimate look at the moments that shaped her rise to fame, success, love and international stardom.”
