Ewan McGregor explains why Yoda was not present in the Star Wars series

Earlier today, we presented the reactions of internet users following the latest episode of the series Obi-Wan Kenobimarking the end of the star wars series. The Disney+ series allowed some piconic characters to return to the franchise, like Hayden Christensen who took over the mantle of the Sith Lord Darth Vader, or more simply with Ewan McGregor rediscovering its role as Jedi Master. However, there’s another character that many fans were looking forward to but ultimately didn’t show up, obviously I’m talking about the franchise’s most famous Jedi Master, yoda.

a noticeable absence

The star of the series Obi-Wan Kenobi so explained why Master Yoda didn’t appear in the Disney+ series. Because if many characters have had the opportunity to return to the light, Yoda, considered one of the greatest Jedi, was conspicuous by his absence.

Fans of the Star Wars prequels remember that Yoda was one of the few Jedi to survive Palpatine’s Order 66. When the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi begin, Yoda, like and Obi-Wan and a few remaining Jedi, remain in hiding, relentlessly sought by the Inquisitors. But circumstances eventually force some of these Jedi out of hiding, as the Empire becomes an increasingly threatening force in the galaxy..

The arrival of the new Star Wars series therefore seemed like the right time to bring the iconic Master Yoda back into the franchise. But during his time on the show The Jess Cagle ShowMcGregor explained the reason why it didn’t happen. This would thus be mainly due to the restrictions suffered by his character in the use of the Force, and this because of the presence of the Empire. The actor explained that Obi-Wan had to focus on protecting Luke Skywalker, but that he also had to keep a low profile because he was actively wanted. He then declared :

He can’t call on any of his elders [mentors]. He can’t contact Yoda, he can’t contact surviving Jedi for fear of betraying himself. If a Jedi uses the Force around this time, the Inquisitors will be able to sense it, and they’ll know where you are. It’s like using your phone, I guess. It will emit a signal from a tower somewhere if the Force is used.

Obi-Wan Kenobi indeed begins with Kenobi hiding out on Tatooine, living the most anonymous life there is while keeping tabs on young Luke Skywalker. But the dastardly designs of the Empire eventually bring Kenobi out of hiding.as Princess Leia is kidnapped and her sworn protector must risk exposure to save her. The lack of practice, not only in the use of the Force but also in the handling of his lightsaberputs Kenobi at a disadvantage when he inevitably comes face to face with his former student Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, resulting in that infamous, long-awaited duel.

Of course, fans would surely have loved being able to witness the return of Yoda and thus see the Jedi Master take part in the festivities, but we can also also understand why the leaders of Lucasfilm and Disney do not want (nor interest) to bring back all the iconic characters of the franchise at once.
