Dynamo Dresden’s interim result after nine match days is satisfactory with a place in midfield. After the top start, however, the trend is pointing downwards. Now the unbeaten 1. FC Nürnberg is coming (Sunday, 1.30 p.m.).
Defender Michael Akoto (middle) is out against FCN, Christoph Daferner (left) is supposed to take care of the goals.

In the duel against the only still undefeated FCN (3/6/0), Dresden’s coach Alexander Schmidt has to do without Michael Akoto. The defender, who was set up on matchday 3, suffered a torn muscle fiber in the adductor area. Fortunately, the 24-year-old will no longer be absent – just like Tim Knipping (cruciate ligament tear), another top performer on the defensive.
The failure of Vlachodimos and Borrello also hurts
But not only in the defense area, also in the offensive, the loss of two potential regular forces hurts the Dresdeners, with Panagiotis Vlachodimos (cruciate ligament tear) and Brandon Borrello (broken foot) are not to be expected for months. And so the dynamo goal danger is channeled primarily to Christoph Daferner, with five hits and one assist also the best shooter and scorer of the Saxons.
Dresden, which last week with sports director Ralf Becker extended until 2025, has lost four of the last five games – and with the Nuremberg defense, the best of the three newcomers to date (4/1/4) expects a very tough nut to crack, because the club has With seven goals conceded, the fewest of all second division clubs conceded and understood a compact style of play. This in particular could cause Schmidt a headache, because a plus in possession of the ball is not one of the strengths of his team, which is more at home in switching situations.
Where is Daferner playing?
Perhaps the Dynamo coach is also pondering the role in which he lets Daferner act this time: Most recently, the attacker, who otherwise played in the front line, had twice acted behind the top – also in the last home game against Bundesliga relegated Werder Bremen (3-0) which he provided as a two-time goalscorer for a highlight in the series of defeats.
