Cuba registers another 7,516 cases of COVID-19 and 76 deaths

Cuba registered this tuesday seven thousand 516 new infections of the COVID-19, a figure that represents a decrease compared to previous days, in a day in which another 76 deaths were regretted due to the disease, reported the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).

The Caribbean island accumulates 761,060 people diagnosed with the disease and 6,449 deaths since the first case a year and a half ago.

The 49 thousand 778 PCR samples analyzed in the last 24 hours detected seven 499 cases of autochthonous transmission and 17 travelers who arrived infected on the island, according to the daily report of the Minsap.

Tuesday was the first of the last five days in which the number of confirmed patients is below eight thousand.

In hospitals, health centers and private homes there are 39 thousand 610 sick confirmed, of them 141 in critical condition and 315 serious.

The strong outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, present for several months in the Caribbean country and where the delta variant now predominates, maintains the western province of Pinar del Río as its main focus, with a thousand 973 new cases notified in the last day, while in Havana 612 infections were registered.

Cuba, whose population is 11.2 million, has maintained for weeks an incidence rate close to a thousand positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 15 days, one of the highest in the world.

The health authorities of the Caribbean country have launched a mass vaccination plan – which includes the pediatric population from two to 18 years of age with the national vaccines Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala.

To date, more than 6.9 million people (63.6% of the Cuban population) have received at least one dose, and more than 4.2 million (39.1%) have completed the three-dose vaccine schedule, according to the latest official data.

Cuba does not integrate the Covax mechanism sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) for low- and middle-income nations to access vaccines, nor has it purchased them on the international market.
