A few weeks ago, several important companies in USA They had decided that their workers return to the offices and began to take different measures to avoid the massive contagions of Covid. Nevertheless, Amazon changed its decision and will now allow its employees to continue remote work from their homes.
The policy adopted by the tech giant was announced Monday in a blog post. Previously, Amazon had chosen because most employees would need to be in the office at least three days a week when it reopens after the COVID-19 pandemic in January.
“In a company of our size, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to how each team works best. For our corporate roles, andInstead of specifying that people work three days a week in the office, we will leave this decision up to each team.“said Andy Jassy, CEO of the company.
And I add: “We expect there will be teams that will continue to work primarily remotely, others that will work in some combination remotely and in the office, and others that will decide that clients are better served if the team works primarily in the office.”.
Amazon, like several other tech companies, has changed policies and dates of return to their offices several times during the coronavirus pandemic. The company previously postponed the reopening date of its offices, from September 2021 to January 2022, due to the Covid-19 delta variant.
In that sense, employees will follow certain health protocols in the offices, even if they mainly work remotely. However, it is worth mentioning that most of the online retail giant’s most global workers around the world they cannot work remotely because they perform their duties in the company’s transportation and fulfillment division, picking up orders and delivering them to customers.
Nevertheless, This new policy will benefit 50,000 office and technology employees who work at the company’s extensive headquarters on the downtown Seattle campus and in the city’s South Lake Union neighborhood.
Lastly, other giants like Google and Microsoft also decided to adopt a flexible work model that requires some days at the office and others from home.. Much depends on the tasks that employees perform as well as the areas in which they perform within the company.
