Botafogo is the first team qualified for the round of 16 of the 2022 São Paulo Junior Football Cup! This Friday (14), against Taubaté, Fogão took the lead after just two minutes, but gave up the tie at the very end and had to compete for another classification in the maximum penalties. And just like in the previous phase, they got the best by 4 to 3 and are still alive in Copinha.

Now, Botafogo awaits the next opponent, who will be the winner of the duel between Corinthians and Resende. The game takes place this Friday, at 21:45 (Brasília time). It is worth remembering that the Rio de Janeiro club is looking for its first Copinha title. The team has already played in a final of the competition, but ended up defeated on penalties by rival Fluminense.

The game

The ball barely rolled in Taubaté and there was already a swinging net. After two minutes, in a free-kick, the barrier opened up a lot and Wendel Lessa, with category, scored a great goal to open the scoring. The home team tried to react and respond as quickly as possible, but they rushed into some choices and started to scare more at the end of the first half. On the other side, Fogão continued to press and had several chances to expand the advantage, but without success.

In the second stage, Taubaté came back better and the game was very balanced. Gradually, Botafogo understood the new position of the opponents and returned to dominate the actions, taking danger in search of the second goal. Once again, goalkeeper João Pedro, from the home team, was one of the highlights, with great saves.

When victory seemed on the way, Romero appeared. In the 33rd minute, the player, who took 20 points in the face after a collision in the previous game, took the free-kick at the angle, with no chances for Lucas Barreto, tying the game with a great goal. After that, Botafogo tried in every way to score the second goal, which would probably give the team classification. But Burro’s goalkeeper didn’t let him and the match went to maximum penalties.

In the kicks, the goalkeepers were also very good. In the fourth penalty, Lucas Barreto saved Marquinhos’ kick, leaving Botafogo one goal away from the classification. Ewerton, however, also stopped in the defense of João Pedro, keeping the dispute open. But, in the end, Lucas Barreto, who came back from Covid in this game, took another charge, now from Lucas Salles, to stamp the spot in Copinha.
