Rüth changes from the second team of TSG Hoffenheim to the leaders of the Regionalliga West, who announced the commitment on Thursday. Last week, the 20-year-old had already practiced at RWE and, according to the club, recommended himself for continued employment there.
“Fabian made a very good impression on us last week and has integrated himself in an exemplary manner in the short time,” Essen’s head coach Christian Neidhart was quoted as saying in the club’s announcement. “He’s a very versatile player who, as a left-footed player, can also play in central defense or in the full-back position. With his variability and tackling strength, he will give us further options.”
Once in the Bundesliga squad
Sports director Jörn Nowak stated that he had “been dealing with Fabian for a long time”. “He comes from the region, enjoyed an excellent training and despite his age is already playing very relaxed. He’s not finished with his development, we still see great potential in him.”
Born in Cologne, Rüth was trained as a youth by Bayer 04 Leverkusen and moved to Sinsheim after his junior years. There he played only in the second team. On matchday 1 of the current season he was in the TSG Bundesliga squad for the first and only time, but was not used.
