Alpine and 5th place, Alonso: “We are close but we must not relax”

Alpine and AlphaTauri marched tight for much of the championship, battling each other for fifth place in the Constructors’ standings. The Qatar race put the Enstone team in a relatively comfortable position with two races to go, with a 25-point lead to manage in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.

Fernando Alonso’s third place and Esteban Ocon’s fifth allowed the Anglo-French team to pull off an AlphaTauri in the standings that wasted all its potential in the race, moving from the front row to eleventh position with Pierre Gasly, thanks to a race strategy at least revisable, to put it mildly.

Nonetheless, Alonso invites the team not to relax, even though he is aware that the fifth place goal is as close as ever. The Spaniard also thinks that the configuration of the track in Jeddah can go well with his A521.

“We weren’t expecting so much margin with two races to go, we thought we would play it point by point up to Yas Marina – Fernando’s words as reported by Crash.net Obviously, the 25-point advantage now makes things easier for us, but we don’t have to relax considering that anything can happen in two races. We have to keep our concentration high with the aim of getting even more points. We can go fast in Jeddah, so at least it seems from the layout of the track, maybe we will be less competitive in Abu Dhabi, even if there are new corners that could help us a bit ”.
