Alpine driver Fernando Alonso said he was disappointed that Honda decided to leave Formula 1. The seasons with McLaren were disappointing but with Red Bull, the Japanese manufacturer managed to get back to the top, allowing Max Verstappen to conquer the drivers’ championship.
“When they left McLaren, I think they weren’t about to dream of a world win. But they did a great job, they nominated the right people “, the Spaniard commented to Motorsport.com.
“I think they have changed the management, and introduced a new philosophy, I am so happy for them. And I’m sad that they won’t be there but I hope they can come back ”.
Despite past misunderstandings with Honda, Alonso admitted to being on good terms with Yamamoto:
“During the last races I spoke to Yamamoto San and I have a very good bond with him. It allowed me to try MotoGP and it was the first one I congratulated after Max in the Parc Ferme, so I’m happy for them “.
