Bayer Leverkusen take the lead three times, Borussia Dortmund three times and ultimately have the better end for themselves. Haaland keeps his nerve when it matters.
Borussia Dortmund gave coach Marco Rose a football spectacle and a furious victory for his 45th birthday. BVB’s 4: 3 (1: 2) after falling three times at Bayer Leverkusen was probably the best and most entertaining game of this Bundesliga season so far, tearing the 17,605 spectators from their seats.
Florian Wirtz, who had played his first three international matches last week, put Bayer in the lead early (9th) and also made it 2-1 through Patrik Schick (45th + 1). Moussa Diaby (55th) achieved Bayer’s third lead ten days after his international debut for world champions France. Nevertheless, Bayer suffered their first defeat of the season instead of their third win in a row. Because BVB equalized three times first through striker Erling Haaland (37th), then by former Leverkusen player Julian Brandt (49th) and finally with a free kick by Raphael Guerreiro (71th). And Haaland scored his 13th goal in the ninth competitive game for Dortmund and Norway after video evidence (77th).
After the third win in the fourth game of the season, Rose will be able to cope with the fact that BVB conceded nine goals for the first time in 30 years after four games.
